BIOGRAPHY:
Eunju Kang was born in 1962 and raised in Daegu, Korea. She moved to California at 14 years old with her mother and two sisters in the 1970s. Kang was always an avid doodler, often in her textbooks, which became a helpful communication tool as she adjusted to her new life. Since the early 1990s, Kang has lived and worked in NYC, painting, printmaking and turning her
doodles into a successful business with her sisters.
Kang earned fine art degrees at UC Santa Barbara and Pasadena Art Center College of Design
where she graduated with distinction. She has been awarded residencies at The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown (FAWC), the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Vermont Studio Center. She has taught at the L.A. County High School for the Arts, the ArtCenter College of Design and the School of Visual Art in NYC. Her fine art is in private collections

After 30 years of only exhibiting fine art photography, the Robin Rice Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition featuring a selection of her gallery photographers and three visual artists new to the space: Erica Hauser, and Matt Kinney. The selected works of these well-established Beacon, NY artists blend with the gallery’s fine art photography. Upon entering the gallery, viewers will encounter figurative sculptures, abstract paintings, and ink wash drawings alongside fine art photography. Since Robin Rice’s move to Beacon, NY, this concept developed organically; the group exhibition is a fusion of artistic mediums inspired by chance encounters between Rice and friends at art events in Beacon. After spending time with creatives who've spent lockdown in studios, Rice carefully chose works most apropos with her edited inventory of framed photography. Through these chance encounters Rice found inspiration to create this exhibition unlike anything seen before at the gallery and curated an immersive experience.
Maintaining her expert aesthetic, Rice has brought together a mosaic of mediums that seamlessly fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Kinney's collection of ink wash paintings in Japanese Sumi ink and watercolor paintings on hand-torn paper render fleeting glimpses of figures and animals as well as primal symbols. About this artist: Born in Little Italy in 1907, Gregorio Prestopino first set out to become a sign painter as the son of New York City immigrants. Instead, his talent provided a life-changing scholarship to the National Academy of Design, and for five years he studied drawing under C. W. Hawthorne. He spent the summer of 1934 at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire. His deep involvement with the colony led him to later serve as its director in 1954.
Much of Prestopino’s work was in the vein of social realism. During the 1940s and 1950s he became deeply invested in portraying everyday Manhattan and Harlem scenes. He first became interested in the Ashcan school at the National Academy of Design, and remained committed to an interest in working with urban scenes.
