20th Century Abele Jacopi Ceramiche Lenci Abyssinian Mother, 1930s
By Lenci, Abele Jacobi
Located in Turin, Turin
In 1919, Helen Konig and her husband Enrico Scavini, founded in Turin, Italy, a small artisan factory of wooden toys and doll furniture. After a few months of activity, they put into production a series of felt dolls that were soon a great commercial success and the company "Lenci" hired hundreds of employees. In 1925 the company participates with its dolls at the Exposition of Decorative Arts in Paris where it wins three Grand Prix, seven diplomas of honor, six gold medals and three silver ones. Around 1928, "Lenci" decided to undertake the production of ceramics and in the same year he presented his first creations at the International Exhibition of Turin, immediately gaining great success and the praise of Giò Ponti. Although the production is centered on multiples, made by casting but always individually decorated, thanks to the collaboration of about twenty great artists the creations of "Lenci" cross the boundaries of craftsmanship to achieve plastic and chromatic results of art sculpture. Production ceased permanently in 1964, but Lenci is still present in the Italian houses as part of the present that remembers a wonderful past, made of Sunday lunches and grandparents. Here this wonderful example of "Abyssinian Mother" designed by Abele Jacopi...

Albisola Ceramic Jug, Hand Painted, ALBA DOCILIA Manufacture, Italy, Early 20thC
By Ceramiche di Albisola
Located in Torino, IT
Albisola ceramic jug, hand painted. ALBA DOCILIA manufacture. Italy, early twentieth century Origin Italy Period Early twentieth century Brand ALBA DOCILIA In 1919 the Albanian Adolfo Rossello, in partnership with a group of financiers, Eng. Guglielmo Camogli, the honorable Michelino Poggi, the lawyer Costantino Barile and Andrea Seitun, returns to his hometown and opens an artisan ceramic factory called 'Alba Docilia', the ancient Roman name of Albisola. In 1922 the 'Alba Docilia', directed at the time by the Roman painter Mario Gambetta, won a medal at the Diano Marina Exhibition and since 1923 has regularly participated in the Milan Trade Fair. In 1923 the factory was transformed into a cooperative company and the following year Adolfo Rossello and his children Angela Teresa, Vittorina, Francesco Adolfo and Pietro became the sole owners. In 1925 the factory took part in the 2nd Monza Biennale. In 1928 the company is present at the Artisan Exhibition of Savona and participates in the Exhibition of Artisan Products of the Albisolese Week of 1933 and '34. Also in 1934, the manufacture's production was presented at the exhibitions in Tripoli, Leipzig and Vienna. In 1938 he was present at the Ligurian Ceramics Exhibition in Rome and at the Florence Handicraft Fair, which he also participated in in 1956 and 1958. Among the ceramists who collaborated with the company between the first and second post-war periods, among others appear: Virio da Savona, Guglielmo Bozzano, Romeo Bevilacqua, Cerruti, Carlo Frumento, Benedetto Gaggero, Ida Milani, Amleto Modolo and Ivos Pacetti...

Fat Lava German Colored And Glazed Ceramic Pitcher
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Peculiar and original German ceramic jug colored with a beautiful shade of red, black, and a vivid orange; it has a simple shape but at the same time innovative and modernist; the beautiful and vivid colors are balanced and proportioned respecting a minimalist design; the glazing of the jar was obtained by first laying down one color, proceeding to fix it by firing it in a kiln, then the same procedure was performed for the other colors; on the bottom bears the traditional mark found on this type of object, indicating that the object was created in a limited series with the jug number and the model number; unfortunately, on our jug this mark is barely legible, but it exists and allows us to say that this object was produced between 1968 and 1971 in a craft workshop in the city of Dresden (then in East Germany), an important center of porcelain and ceramic production. "Fat lava" is the name given to a certain style of East German art...

Copeland-Spode English Tray With Blue Transferware Decorations
By Copeland Spode
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and refined English octagonal ceramic tray; on the white background, soft and rich blue decorations have been executed using the transferware method; in the center we find the poetic and graceful representation of the Severn River and the town of Bridgnorth (the name of this decoration is "Severn"), while the edges of the tray are adorned with sumptuous and spectacular flower and leaf decorations. The Severn River is the longest river in the United Kingdom (350 km), rising in Wales and flowing into the Bristol Channel; Bridgnorth is an ancient Saxon settlement; observing the view of the river and town from his castle at Bridgnorth King Charles I Stuart (1600-1649) said "the most beautiful sight in all my kingdom". On the back of the tray there are 3 imprinted marks including one with final number 14, then we find in the center a blue mark, these indicate to us exactly that the tray was produced in Stoke-on-Trent by the Copeland-Spode company in 1914 (see mark no.1079 p.172 of "Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Mark). The Spode firm was founded in the heart of the Potteries - Stoke-on-Trent by Josiah Spode in 1770. Josiah Spode is most famous for developing the specific design technique that meant underglaze transfers could be printed on earthenware. Later, focusing on porcelain production, Josiah Spode pioneered the development of a new form of porcelain, originally called "Stoke China...

Art Deco Wilkinson Arthur J. Royal Staffordshire Pottery Pair of Tureens
By Arthur J Wilkinson
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Pretty and refined pair of small serving tureens; they have a well-proportioned, square design typical of Art Deco, graceful and pleasing floral decorations on the lid and body help to lighten the rigidity of the form; the rim and knob are ornamented in pure gold. On the bottom, we find the maker's mark: the famous Arthur J. Wilkinson Firm located on Newport Lane in Burslem, near Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire County, an ancient locality famous for the production of pottery and porcelain. From the mark, we can accurately identify the year of production of the two soup tureens: 1947. In 1881 the old Central factories in Burslem passed into the hands of Wilkinson & Hulme; in 1885 Hulme retired from the business and Arthur J. Wilkinson continued alone, AJ Wilkinson...

Rockabilly Style French Centrepiece Red and Black Ceramic
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Red and black ceramic table centerpiece made in Rockabilly style, the colors are strong and decisive, the black has the distinction of having beautiful reflections nacreè (mother of pearl), reflections that unfortunately the photos can not capture, from life are really seductive, the form is nicely undulating, pleasant and very capacious; the centerpiece was produced between 1950 and 1953, by skilled artisans in the area of Vallauris, the "French city of ceramics" in Provence north-east of Cannes, renowned since ancient times for the production of this fascinating material; there were more than 250 production centers, but today very few remain and since the mid-20th century, they are dedicated to the manufacture of contemporary ceramics. The word "Rockabilly" is a combination of "rock and roll" and "hillbilly" (a derogatory term used to define the Appalachian mountain people and, in a generic sense, meant country boor); Rockabilly was a musical genre developed in the early 1950s, it was one of the first forms of rock & roll. It was a fusion of bluegrass, country, boogie-woogie, and jazz, originally from the southern United States, and was played and sung by artists such as Buddy Holly...
