Mad Max Original Vintage Movie Poster by Tom Beauvais, Belgian, 1982
By Tom Beauvais
Located in Devon, GB
Making a bold visual statement with a clean and straightforward design, this small-format poster for the first Belgian release of George Miller's groundbreaking 1979 pre-apocalyptic action thriller 'Mad Max' utilises the same superb Tom Beauvais artwork created for the British campaign posters, which draws us in as we look down the twin-barrels of a shotgun. As noted by Sim Brannaghan in his 2006 book on 'British Film Posters,' the Beauvais design strips "the film down to its basic elements of cop, the car & the road". Set in a bleak dystopian near-future Australia veering towards societal collapse due to critical petrol shortages, the influential film starred a little-known Mel Gibson in the titular role as a police officer turned vigilante when his family are murdered by a sadistic biker gang. Essentially a revenge western meets apocalyptic road movie, the film's sparse dialogue made way for a kinetic combination of visceral action sequences, chaotic car chases and an other-worldly visual style, hinting at the barren wastelands we would see in later films. Shot on a shoestring budget of $400,000 Australian dollars...

For Heaven s Sake Original Vintage Movie Poster by Eric Rohman, Swedish, 1926
By Eric Rohman
Located in Devon, GB
Printed in stunning stone lithography, this extremely rare poster was designed by prolific poster artist Eric Rohman for the original Swedish release of the action-packed 1926 American silent comedy 'For Heaven's Sake,' starring Harold Lloyd - one of the biggest stars of the silent era. After several years at Pathé, Lloyd made his debut at Paramount with this delightful slapstick classic, in which his trademark go-getting 'glasses' character appears as Uptown Boy J. Harold Manners, a millionaire playboy who falls for a Downtown Girl. With a dazzling finale featuring a double-decker bus careering through the city streets, the comedy of thrills was one of Lloyd's most successful films and the 12th highest grossing film of the silent era. Rohman's whimsical lunar poster design was inspired by a charming scene in which Harold woos his Downtown Girl (Jobyna Ralston) by the romantic light of a crescent moon - which is then revealed to be part of a neon sign for Crescent Laundry! Lushly printed in lapis blue, black and a contrasting orange, the enchanting Art Deco style artwork pictures the loved up...

Her Majesty’s Vase: A horse racing trophy by John Samuel Hunt
By John Samuel Hunt
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
This silver presentation vase is a small replica of the classical Roman ‘Warwick Vase’. The body is cast and chased with fruiting vines below the rim. The central field has a continuous band with bearded Bacchic heads floating above a lion’s mask and pelt. The applied handles comprise gnarled twisted vine stems. The spreading stem is set on a square foot which in turn sits on an ebonised wooden plinth base. The plinth is applied with two vacant laurel wreath cartouches and two rectangular plaques, one finely engraved with the Royal Coat of Arms and the other inscribed “Plymouth, Devonport and Cornwall Races 1845, the gift of her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria, Augustus Coryton Esqr, W. R. Fortescue Esqr, Stewards” and “Her Majesty’s Vase, value 100gs., for three-year-old and upwards – Heats, about two miles, starting at the T.Y.C. Starting-post, once round, to the Grand Stand Winning-post.” Fully marked and stamped on the side of the foot ‘Hunt & Roskell Late Storr & Mortimer 2225’. English, assayed for London 1845. Provenance: Her Majesty Queen Victoria. Sir John Barker-Mill, Baronet of Mottisfont.Thence by descent. John Barker (1803-1860) was created 1st Baronet ‘of Mottisfont in the County of Southampton’ on 16 March 1836. Medieval Egyptian Mamluk Brass Tray Stand with Silver Inlay
Located in London, GB
This exceptionally beautiful and rare silver-inlaid brass tray stand dates from the medieval period, when the Mamluks ruled Egypt and Syria (1250-1517). The Mamluks originated as slave-soldiers, who served the Muslim caliphs and Ottoman Empire. With time, the Mamluks became a powerful military caste, and they managed to take control and establish themselves as rulers of certain areas within the Abbasid caliphate. The Mamluk dynasty commissioned great works of art and architecture, particularly in Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, which was described in the 14th Century as ‘the centre of the universe and garden of the world’ (Ibn Khaldun, 1382). This tray stand is of biconical form, with a raised central band and flared base and rim. It is decorated with scrolling vines, overlaid with Thuluth inscriptions and roundels. On the lower body, the roundels contain floral motifs, and in the upper, stylised depictions of birds. The Thuluth inscriptions praise the patron, referring to him as ‘The High authority, the Lordly, the Possessor’, and ‘the learned’. The underside of the rim is engraved with a heraldic medallion, possibly the patron’s symbol. In the middle ages, when this piece was made, this item would have stood in a grand interior, supporting a tray full of fruit and fine food. The owner of this lavish piece which still bears traces of its original silver inlay would likely have been an Amir (prince) or some other important figure who was close to the Sultan in the Mamluk court. Mamluk tray...

Mid-19th Century American Stationary with Manuscript Letter, Signed 1854
Located in Langweer, NL
American stationery with in the top the following text printed: E pluribus unum – Latin for "Out of many, one" (also translated as "One out of many" or "One from many") – is a traditional motto of the United States, appearing on the Great Seal along with Annuit cœptis (Latin for "he approves the undertaking [lit. 'things undertaken']") and Novus ordo seclorum (Latin for "New order of the ages"); its inclusion on the seal was approved by an Act of Congress in 1782. While its status as national motto was for many years unofficial, E pluribus unum was still considered the de facto motto of the United States from its early history. Eventually, the United States Congress passed an act (H. J. Resolution 396), adopting "In God We Trust" as the official motto in 1956. The thirteen letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM makes its use symbolic of the thirteen original states like the thirteen stripes on the US flag. The meaning of the phrase originates from the concept that out of the union of the original Thirteen Colonies emerged a new single nation. It is emblazoned across the scroll and clenched in the eagle's beak on the Great Seal of the United States. (Source: wikipedia) Text below the portraits: "The Presidents of our Great Republic." Letter paper with hand-colored engraving showing the portraits of the 14 presidents of the USA from George Washington up to Franklin Pierce...
