The Bubble Vase is a stunning piece crafted from white stoneware, showcasing a beautiful combination of elegance and organic forms. The vase features a unique bubble-like texture. The irregular and organic shape of the vase enhances its artistic appeal, providing an intriguing contrast to more traditional and symmetrical vase forms. The white color of the stoneware lends a sense of purity and simplicity to the vase, making it versatile and complementary to various interior styles and color schemes. It can effortlessly blend into modern, minimalist spaces or add a crisp and fresh accent to more vibrant and eclectic decor.

King of Farts
original ceramic vase and relief signed by Michael Gross
Located in Milwaukee, WI
The ceramic sculptures of Wisconsin artist Michael Gross are personal narratives that reveal an unusual mix of earthly magic and primal vitality. The artist works in a variety of forms, including figurines, large vessels and furniture. The present vase is among the top tier of his works from the 1980s, showing multiple playful figures in relief around the vessel. In his Neo-Expressionist style, hearkening to the works of Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the figures are colored in painterly polychrome. Also, not unlike the painted narrative vessels of Ancient Greece, though much more subversive, many of the figures and stories are identified with text: 'King of Fart,' 'Dance Little Sister,' 'Girls for Every Boy,' and 'Beach Boy.'
22 x 13 x 12 inches overall
Signed 'Gross' near base
Dated 1986 near upper rim

John Glick Plum Street Pottery Reduction Fired Shino Glaze Cup Published in Book
Located in Detroit, MI
“Untitled” ceramic, is an example of the kind of work by which John Glick became so famous. He was seduced by the effects of the reduction kiln, which decreased the levels of oxygen during firing, inducing the flame to pull oxygen out of the clay and glazes changing the colors of the glazes depending on their iron and copper content. In this way he achieved the rich gradients of ochre and umber and variations in stippling and opacity.
This piece is signed on the bottom and can be found on page 92, plate #125 in “John Glick: A Legacy in Clay.”
John was an American Abstract Expressionist ceramicist born in Detroit, MI. Though open to artistic experimentation, Glick was most influenced by the styles and aesthetics of Asian pottery—an inspiration that shows in his use of decorative patterns and glaze choices. He has said that he is attracted to simplicity, as well as complexity: my work continually reflects my re-examination that these two poles can coexist… or not, in a given series. Glick also took influences from master potters of Japan, notably Shoji Hamada and Kanjrio Kawai, blending their gestural embellishments of simple forms with attitudes of Abstract Expressionism. He was particularly drown to the work of Helen Frankenthaler whose soak-stain style resonated with Glick’s multi-layered glaze surfaces, which juxtaposed veils of atmospheric color with gestural marks and pattern. He spent countless hours developing and making his own tools in order to achieve previously unseen results in his work with clay and glaze.
Glick’s “Plum Tree Pottery...

Ceramic from Vallauris
Workshop "Les Argonautes", Vallauris: Isabelle Ferlay (1917-?) And Frédérique Bourguet (1925-1997)
Isabelle Ferlay and Frédérique Bourguet founded their ceramic workshop in Vallauris in 1953, which they named "Les Argonautes", in reference to the famous Greek epic.
Isabelle studied painting at the Fine Arts school of Lyon in 1940, then she attended the Fine Arts in Marseille. Finally, she finished her artistic training in Montpellier, at the Fontcarade national school, where she learned ceramics.
Françoise dit Frédérique Bourguet studied at the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier until 1945 and it was in Sèvres, in Françoise Bizette's studio, that she trained in the art of ceramics. She created her first workshop in Paris in 1945, which she shared with Valentine Schlegel until 1951. The two women ceramicists then practiced
modeling technique. It was in 1953 that she met Isabelle Ferlay and together, they decided to set up a workshop in Vallauris. They produce
shaped pieces, sometimes molded, made of earthenware, enamelled in bright colors. In the 1970s they made stoneware cooked over a wood fire. Some ceramists frequented their workshop, notably the very talented Jacques Innocenti and François Raty.

"Stoneware Vessel" Cream Glaze with Organic Decorations, Signed
By Gawaine Dart
Located in Detroit, MI
The rich tones of the stoneware clay come through the soft creamy glaze that drips over the surface like melted vanilla ice cream over red devil cake. This beautifully rendered ceramic vessel is perched on little decorative feet that poke out of the body of the piece. Of particular interest and commanding presence are the decorative forms attached to the top and sides. They twisted shapes of bent organic growth and provide endless entertainment for the creative imagination.
